Laduree at Rue Bonaparte

Ladurée - Rue Bonaparte

Oh Ladurée... Where would your international clientele be if it weren't for blogs?

For the few of you who don't know (though I doubt that are very few) Ladurée is a French luxury bakery
and sweets maker house created in 1862.

It is one of the top premier sellers of the double-decker macaron, fifteen thousand of which are sold every day.
They are still one of the best known makers of macarons in the world.

Unaware that is was a French holiday, I found myself walking to 2 closed pâtisseries that day.
So I was very grateful, Ladurée had his doors open and I hadn't gone to this
iconic location of theirs on Rue Bonaparte.

The ice cream cups and macaron towers gleamed at me from the window.
How can one resist?!

Paris Photo of the Day: Notre Dame on Ile de la Cite

Notre Dame Cathedral

The iconic Notre Dame church is on the little island of Île de la Cité, right in the middle of Paris.
It is one of the loveliest places to walk to in Paris
(which, come to think of it, I think I say at every PPOTD-post but ALL of Paris is beautiful to walk!)

The Île de la Cité is the centre of Paris and the location where the medieval city was refounded.

Paris Photo of the Day: Ile Saint-Louis

The island of Saint-Louis, or the île Saint-Louis,
right in the middle of Paris in the Seine, is one of the two natural islands
(the other, île de la cité which has the Notre Dame).

It is one of my favorite places to walk, just as thousands of tourists and
Parisians must agree with me.

The views you see overlooking the Seine river are magnificent!

Paris Photo of the Day: the Museum of Fashion

aka Palais Galliera.
Formally known as the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris.

It's a museum of fashion and fashion history located at 10 avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie,
in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

Palais Galliera

The outer surface was just incredibly mesmirizing!
The parc situated at the back was lovely!

Unfortunately it was closed when I came to visit, due to renovations.
But then again, even the closed gates were pretty!

And at least I'll have a museum to visit in my next trip!

Paris Photo of the Day: Marie Antoinette's Hamlet

The Hameau de la Reine or The Queen's Hamlet, is a rustic retreat
in the park of the Château de Versailles built for Marie Antoinette near the Petit Trianon.

It served as a private meeting place for the Queen and her closest friends, a place of leisure...

Each one of the cottages is as cute as the next one.
This is the mill:

The 'Temple of Love' - think of the naughty things that went on in here!

And some other great cottages:

But my favorite was the farm, with all the sweet animals:

Paris Photo of the Day: Marie Antoinette's Home

The Grand and Petit Trianon was built in the northwestern part of the Domain of Versailles.

The 20-year-old Louis XVI gave the château and its surrounding park to his
19-year-old Queen Marie Antoinette for her enjoyment.

Marie Antoinette longed to escape Louis and his court, and he gave her just the right place...

Marie Antoinette would come to the Petit Trianon not only to escape the formality of court life,
but also to shake off the burden of her royal responsibilities.

At Versailles, she was under considerable pressure and judgement from both her family and the court,
and the Petit Trianon was her place of ease and leisure where she could rest from those trials.

I'm trying to channel Marie Antoinette for upcoming carnaval festivities here in the South of the Netherlands.
I think I found my costume..! What do you think?

With it, I'll be wearing a blonde curly wig, pearls, feathers and pink bows in my hair!
